Clear Sight

June 1, 2011 1 Comment

Our eyes are a critical tool for seeing the world around us.  However, we utilize our eyes for so much more:  We see with our eyes, express with our eyes, decipher information with our eyes, and communicate with our eyes.  Raising the eyebrows, scrunching the forehead, squinting, and laughing are just a few of the many movements we make throughout the day.  As a result, this area of the body is a focal point for stress (and no coincidence that this is a where we apply “anti-aging” creams, and where we “get work done”). Here are some ways to undo the stress, releasing tension around the eye area to find relaxation and clarity, and to keep ourselves younger!

1.  Warmth

Rub the hands together briskly until they are warm.  Cup your warm healing hands over your eyes.  Look up, look down, look side to side.  Take three breaths breathing into your eyes.  With each exhale imagine the space around your eyes softening.  Then sweep your face with your hands.  Imagine you are sweeping the old stagnant energy off of your face, and you are left with clean, clear sight!

2.  Shifting the Gaze

When you need to take a moment for yourself, tuck the chin and allow your eyes to soften and your gaze to be downward or inward.  You will be amazed at how the simple technique brings attention and focus to you.  Feel your breath here.  This is a simple shift to get focused in the middle of your day.

Understanding the Chakra Connection

The 6th Chakra is located at the brow center, “the third eye”.  This chakra is representative of wisdom and knowledge, but not in the bookish sense.  This is the chakra that connects us to infinite knowledge, the sense that all of the answers are already there, we just have to connect.

Physically, this chakra is related to the mind and the eyes, the focal point of sight and communication.  Hence, relaxing and connecting to this chakra is related to clearer physical vision of the eyes, and is also about accessing a deeper way of “seeing”.
