Karoun Yoga for your Ideal Weight

July 23, 2010 1 Comment

Karoun Yoga doesn’t offer power yoga classes.  So, how does Karoun Yoga help you find your ideal weight?

Here’s how:  Most over-eating/snacking actually occurs for emotional reasons.  That’s right.  Have you ever noticed that when you are bored, stressed, or tired, you go for the potato chips or cookies?  Pay attention next time you do this!  It is a quick fix, but not a permanent one, the negative feeling comes back pretty quickly.

Place in this context, the fact that when you all leave class, you tell me how relaxed and fantastic you feel.  That is because in Karoun Yoga classes, you are guided to release stress, tension, and negative emotions with the breath, through and out of the body.  Thus any negative feelings are actually released, rather than suppressed (for example by food).

When you feel good, relaxed, and calm, you eat only what we need to.  Yoga helps you to connect back with your center, to feel open, and relaxed.  After yoga you don’t need anything else to make you feel better, because you are already there!

So, next time you reach for a snack, stop and notice if something is bothering you.  Try some yoga postures and breathing techniques that you learned in class.  You’ll be amazed at how feeling good on the inside can help you look great on the outside!

Karoun, since I have been coming to yoga I have found that what you wrote about “emotional” eating (for whatever reason) to be true. I have found that even just doing some yoga breathing with my eyes closed, with my thoughts centered on how I felt at the end of the last yoga class, can be incredibly helpful in getting over that hump. The other thing I find is that because I am regularly reducing/relieving my stress through yoga that over time, I am having less and less cause to do emotional eating. I guess what I am saying is that the yoga fills me from the top, the bottom and helps to plug all the holes in between!
